HOW DO EAR CANDLES WORK?

That is the question! Ask 10 people in this business, and you will get 10 different answers.

When we began to investigate ear candling, we became at once confused by the wide
variety of answers you could get to that question. Take your pick...injection of smoke into
the ear canal (our personal favorite)...sucking wax from the ear (our least favorite
choice)...setting up a draft in the sinus cavities...infusion of energy...the list goes on and
on.

It is our studied opinion that the beneficial effects of ear candling can be attributed to the
injection of smoke into the ear canal.

It is the smoke that does the work...soothing ...warming ...loosening and relaxing
things...helping moisture evaporate. It is the smoke that does the work, not some mysterious
vacuum.

For centuries, many cultures have known that injection of smoke into the ear canal relieves
earache pain, softens impacted ear wax (allowing the wax to do what it does best...make
its own way out of the ear), and can offer excellent relief of pressure in the sinuses.

DO EAR CANDLES REALLY EXTRACT THE WAX FROM THE EAR?

Consider the force that would be required to extract a thick substance, such as ear wax.
Even in a very softened, fluid state, the suction required would be intense. It is just not
possible for a flame at the end of a hollow cone to generate enough suction to move a
solid, or even a liquid. We recently spoke to a research scientist at the National Institutes of
Health (who uses ear candles, by the way), and he said, "If something is powerful enough
to suck ear wax and debris from my ear, I don't even want it close to my head." He is right.
Such a device would be dangerous, and damaging.

Some manufacturers claim that there is a "chimney effect," which draws wax from the ear
during the candling process. Respectfully, we know that claim to be false. Our own
research, and the research of highly qualified scientists and medical watchdog
organizations, who have tested ear candles in "good faith," has proven over and over
again that there is no such chimney effect...drawing wax from the ear. If we ever come
across one that does, we will stop manufacturing ours, and help them market theirs...for it
would be a truly miraculous product.

Facts are stubborn things, and the fact is that ear candles can not generate the suction
necessary to extract wax from the ear.

We believe that the ear candling process can help loosen impacted wax, allowing it to do
what it was designed to do...naturally find its way out of the ear canal.

WHAT IS ALL THAT JUNK LEFT IN THE CANDLE?

We have experimented with several types of ear candles, and all that we have tested have
some residue in the candle after burning them (not in an ear...in a glass container...with
no ear wax present). Some have more than others, but they all have some. Ours have some
residue (not much, but some). The junk in the candle is the product of burning muslin, and
melting bees wax (or paraffin).

It is very popular to take the candle when finishing a candling session, and cut it open to
see just how much junk "came out." This may be fun, and entertaining, but it is
misleading. Junk does not "come out." However, "real junk" is loosened, warmed, and the
natural processes are aided by the candling procedure.

Some claim that the yellowish, creamy residue is "infection," or "yeast." This is bogus. Not
everyone has an ear infection, yet many that we have tested have that yellowish creamy
residue. An empty glass jar does not have an ear infection or yeast build-up, but most
candles that we have tested in an empty glass jar have the yellowish, creamy residue.

Note: Our testing shows that bees wax ear candles normally have more residue in the
candle after burning them than do paraffin candles. We are not certain why, but this seems
to be the case. We have opted to produce bees wax candles, rather than paraffin, because
of the odor, and the possible therapeutic properties of bees wax.

Manufacturers and retailers that make these claims most likely truly believe that wax and
infection are being extracted during the candling process. However, those who take some
time to investigate come to the conclusions that we have.

In fact, the mark of a good ear candle is how little residue remains after burning the
candle to about 3 inches from the tip. Maximum benefit comes from keeping the tip open
during the procedure.

WHY ARE WE THE ONLY MANUFACTURER THAT DISCLAIMS EARWAX REMOVAL
DURING THE CANDLING PROCESS?

Well, we are not the only one that does. If you carefully review web-sites of ear candle
manufacturers, you will find that many of them are straightforward, and truthful. Some
promote their products "for entertainment only" purposes. Others make no specific claims
at all.

There are many honest, informed, straightforward manufacturers out there that will tell you
this. They are to be commended! However, manufacturers that claim that you need to use
eight or ten candles to keep sucking more and more wax from the ear are doing a
disservice to the user. One candle, (or two if you have severe symptoms) burned in each
ear, is adequate to maintain good head health.

We believe, above all, in honesty. We want to know the truth about what we are buying,
when we are shopping for a product. It is only right that we be truthful with potential buyers
of our product. When we began our campaign to educate the public about the truth
concerning ear candling, our business suffered a bit. However, we would rather not be in
this business...if it means skirting around the truth. Time has proven to us that this is the
correct approach. We currently do more business than we can comfortably handle. We are
always "under the gun" to produce enough candles to fill our customer needs in a timely
manner. We have expanded twice in the last year to be able to handle the growing
demand for our candles, and to be able to fulfill our "same day" shipping pledge.

Ear candles are simply a home remedy for earache, sinusitis, ringing in the ears, inner ear
imbalance problems, etc. Ear candling is being used as an experimental treatment for a
wide variety of ailments. As with other home remedies, results vary from user to user. While
we have great confidence in the quality of our product, we won't make unrealistic claims.

WHY DO WE SELL AND PROMOTE EAR CANDLES, AND CANDLING?

(At this point, you may want to click this link, and visit our "About Us" page)

Because of the many benefits that ear candling does offer!

For centuries, many cultures have known that injection of smoke into the ear canal relieves
earache pain, softens impacted ear wax (allowing the wax to do what it does best...make
it's own way out of the ear), and can offer excellent relief of pressure in the sinuses.

From the beginning, we began to have amazing reports from customers that had suffered
for years with head-related problems. Many of our customers report that after one or two
treatments, their sinuses begin to break loose, and their heads feel clear for the first time in
ages. Sinus headaches can disappear instantly.

We have numerous reports from customers of instant relief from earache
pain...dizziness...vertigo, etc. There is a prominent theory that ear candling may aid the
body in the production of the tiny crystals within the inner ear. These crystals are what tells
our brain whether we are lying, standing, seated, or bending. These crystals help keep us
in balance. Some of the most dramatic reports that we have had concern much help our
customers have received with imbalance problems.

Ear candles are being used by many alternative health practitioners to treat what is
commonly known today as ADD. We are hearing good results from customers who have
begun this treatment experimentally with children, instead of using the commonly
prescribed drugs, which may have many ill side effects. How can ear candles possibly help
alleviate the symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder? We have our theories, which relate to
the relaxing process itself, but frankly, we do not know. The jury is still out (with a long
deliberation ahead) as to whether ear candling may be beneficial in the treatment of ADD,
and ADHD.

We will make no specific claims that you will receive relief of your symptoms. However, our
ear candles are an inexpensive remedy to try. Thousands of people have been helped by
using our ear candles.

An Ear Candling Session is extremely relaxing and entertaining. We all lead stressful lives.
30 minutes of being still, listening to the candle burn, feeling the warmth of the smoke, is
an extremely pleasant experience. Ear Candles are great...if for this reason only.

Is ear candling a scam?

If the ear candles you have used before were made from paraffin and someone told you all the
"gunk" left in the candle afterwards was from your ear, then YES, you were scammed.  From what
we know, Ear candling dates back to at least Ancient Egypt. There are variations of ear candling
used all over the globe.

In our modern day, we are governed by the "scientific method".  Anything that can't be studied by
this method is considered a "scam", and great efforts are made to discredit it.
Of course, the
"scientific method" can't explain why the bumble bee can fly
!  Generally speaking, natural
remedies are inexpensive, so pharmaceuticals and Doctors won't make a fortune from prescribing
them. It's easier for Doctors to call it a scam, than lose patients to alternative remedies.

What's the big deal about soy wax?

In our efforts to promote "green living" and ecological responsibility, we use very little packaging
(just enough to protect the candles) and we DO NOT use paraffin (aka: food grade, cheese grade,
gulf, candle); instead we use a more expensive beeswax / soy wax blend in the crafting of our ear
candles.  Soy wax leaves far less residue inside the candle than traditional paraffin, thus the
candles clog less, allowing more warmth and cleaner smoke to enter the ear canal to aid in
softening ear pain and excess wax in the ear.   With our beeswax soy wax blend, you get a true
result in your candling session because there is virtually no residue from the candle!   Beeswax is
exceptional!  Exceptionally expensive by itself.  Both soy and beeswax are renewable sources for
wax and burn completely.
HOWEVER, "100% beeswax", "essential oils" , "herb infused" are all
marketing hype other companies use to charge you more for their product!

Is it safe to use paraffin ear candles?

DO NOT USE EAR CANDLES MADE OF PARAFFIN.  Beware of the Paraffin Scam!  Paraffin leaves
lots of "gunk" (residue) in the bottom of the candle which many people believe to be ear wax.
Paraffin "gunk" is, unfortunately, one of the biggest scams being used to shock people into buying
ear candles.  With our beeswax soy wax blend, you get a true result in your candling session
because there is virtually no residue from the candle!   We have zero tolerance for those who
promote paraffin "gunk", "wicking action", "chimney effect", "vacuum", or any related terms in their
ear candling practices or presentations. These are scams designed to trap the ignorant.  For the
record, when I began using ear candles in the 90's I too was taught "all that gunk" was from the ear
and the ear candle "sucked" all that wax out.  I have since learned differently and am more
empowered by the wellness effects of ear candling than ever before. A remedy that is thousands of
years old, has proven the "test of time"
I hope you enjoy your improved, scam free and
environmentally friendly candles.

Do they really work?

That's really up to you.  If you were told it "sucks the wax out of your ears" then the answer is NO.  If
you believe that the individual is responsible for his or her own healing then YES, ear candling
works. Many of my own personal experiences and those of my clients, friends, family and customers
express relief from ear pain, hearing problems, ringing in the ears, chronic wax build-up, sinus
issues and headaches.

Remember, alternative remedies take longer, but cause less damage to the body than invasions
from drugs, probes, irrigation, surgery, etc.  The very things a doctor would recommend!
BTW: ear candles do not help you or your spouse with "selective" hearing loss!  LOL

Is all that stuff in the tip of the candle from my ear?

No. If your ear candle is made with paraffin (ours are NOT!), 99% of the wax residue is from the ear
candle. It's not wax "removal" that makes ear candling such a wonderful alternative remedy. We'll
address this further down in the questions and answers, so keep reading!  If you are using a paraffin
blend candle and you want to know which wax is which, let the candle cool.  After it has cooled,
squeeze the wax.  If it is squishy, it
may be mixed with ear wax from your ear.  If it is hard, you can
be certain that it is all from the ear candle.

How often do I candle my ears?

Common sense is the determining factor. I candle my family every 3-6 months and during cold, flu
and allergy season we candle weekly.  2-3 candles per ear is normal. I would
never use more than
4 candles per ear under any circumstances.

When is ear candling a "no-no"?

If the ear drum is perforated, if there are tubes in the ear, or if you have any rash or open
sores/wounds in or around the outer ear.  Ear Candles will help with ear ache pain, but do NOT
reduce infection. You should seek the advise of a doctor if any of these conditions are present.

I didn't see much wax in the candle after I finished.  Should I candle again?

No. That means you are NOT using paraffin ear candles!  Ear Candling should be used as
maintenance rather than for repair. The candling process lets the individual achieve a sense of
clarity.  I always ask my clients to "come in for a landing" after they have been candled. I ask them
to envision the landing gauge from an airplane.  Once they sit up from being candled, I ask them if
they are they coming in straight, or are they feeling tipped to one side or the other?  If one side
(wing so to speak) is heavier than the other, then I candle that candle that ear again.  Balance is
achieved when they come in straight for their landing.

If you are using a paraffin based ear candle then rest assured most, if not all, the wax is from the
ear candle! With a 100% Beeswax, or a Beeswax / Soy Wax blend, you will be able to look inside
and through the candle without cutting it open.  A good ear candling session will give you an
immediate sense of clarity, relaxation, and wellbeing --just like a massage!  In most cases you won't
see anything come out immediately after the session, HOWEVER, if you have excessive wax
build-up, you should notice more sloughing out in the 2-3 days afterwards.

It's important to keep in mind that most alternative remedies (home remedies, wellness remedies,
etc) do not offer instant results like pills and antibiotics do.
Alternative remedies don't destroy your
liver either!

If my ears are itchy should I candle them?

No.  Itchy ears can be a symptom of scores of issues or it might be as simple as a reaction to the
chemicals in your shampoo. Rinse your ears thoroughly each time you shampoo. ALSO, there is a
fungus that grows in the ear, which loves the humid climates in our southern states.  Take a q-tip
and swab the outer ear twice daily with brown vinegar (apple cider vinegar).  That should cure it
within 24-28 hours.

What do I do if some of the candle gunk gets in the ear?

You can expect the possibility of this happening if you use paraffin based ear candles.  To remove
it,  use a Q-Tip dipped in hydrogen peroxide or a good ear oil, and gently swab the residue out of
the ear using outward sweeps being careful not to push it further inside. Repeat the process until
the residue is removed.  Afterwards, put 3 drops of a good ear oil on a small piece of a cotton ball
and place in the ear.  Leave that in for at least an hour before removing (overnight is better).
Gunk
will not be a problem with 100% beeswax ear candles or with our exclusive beeswax / soy wax
blend.
If you feel pain or can't get the residue out of your ear, go to your Doctor asap!

While my friend was ear candling me it was very hot and uncomfortable.  What happened and
what should I do?

Soy burns hotter than paraffin which is one of the reasons we mix it with beeswax.  Paraffin leaves
lots of residue which can drip into the ear canal and cause possible damage.  Regardless of the
type of wax used, the person ear candling should always check the candle during the session to
make sure there isn't any wax dripping down the candle. You can check this by keeping a lamp on
during the session.  The light reflecting through the candle will allow you to see any bulk wax
dripping down. If this happens and you feel uncomfortable: STOP CANDLING IMMEDIATELY!  To
reduce the outer temperature of the tip of soy based candles, you can use silicone ear plugs (found
at Walgreens or CVS) to wrap around the tip of the candle.  This not only acts as a very
comfortable heat barrier but helps to make a tight seal around the ear for candling purposes.  The
silicone ear plugs are reusable too!  Don't use the same ear plugs on more than one person though.
. ewe!

There was _________ stuck on the end of the candle.  Did that really come from my ear?

My customers and clients (as well as family) have told me about all sorts of things ending up in the
ear... dirt,  bugs, sand etc. My own son had a foam pellet from a bean bag chair stick to the end of
the candle. . . 5 years and several doctor visits AFTER the bean bag chair broke open and sprayed
all over him!
The ear is built to get rid of foreign materials, and every so often we need to help it
along.
Scores of our valiant military personnel order ear candles to get rid of the sand and ear
pressure problems while they are over seas!

After I ear candle there is powder inside the candle and sometimes in my ear.  What is it?

Most beeswax candles will produce powder.  Our soy wax / beeswax blend will produce a minimal
amount of powder but the tip will not get clogged like paraffin candles.

Any ear candle containing beeswax will produce a larger accumulation of powder residue than
plain paraffin
. If your supposed "100% beeswax" candle has "gunk" in it instead or along with
powder (after you finish candling), the company you ordered from mixes it with PARAFFIN!

If you are using a paraffin or a paraffin / beeswax blend ear candle, stopping a few times during the
session to clear the tip (use a toothpick) will help.  When you finish the session, use a q-tip dipped
in hydrogen peroxide and gently swab the ear to collect any powdery residue you are
uncomfortable with.  Duh, don't stick the q-tip too far!  Does this really even need to be said?

Any natural material is NOT going to be 100% predictable, so expect some variations to occur
from time to time.
Questions and Answers

1) What should I expect during and after the Ear
Candling session?
During the Ear Candling session, you will feel the
candle being carefully inserted into your ear. You
may hear some crackling and popping when the wax
is being pulled out. Just relax and enjoy the face and
neck massage done during the Ear Candling
session.

If the person being candled has excessive hearing
loss, they may feel more heat during the Ear
Candling session since their feeling senses are
keener then a good hearing person. If this becomes
uncomfortable, the Ear Candler, at your request, will
stop the procedure and continue when you feel it is
appropriate.

After the Ear Candling session, you may feel
lightness in your head and noises may seem to be
louder. Putting a little ear oil on some cotton and
inserting it in your ears can relieve this. You will find
that your hearing has improved as most likely the
blockage of wax is gone.

You may feel warmth or itching in the ears. This can
be relieved by putting a drop or two of hydrogen
peroxide in the ears for a day or two after the
candling session, then wipe them out with a cotton
swab. The hydrogen peroxide will continue to clean
the ears and the itching will stop.

You may find your sinuses are draining or the
drainage has increased. This will relieve the
pressure in your sinus area and sinus headaches
should decrease. The senses of taste, smell and
sight may also be increased.

Twice a year we all have our teeth cleaned to keep
our mouths healthy. Why not keep our ears healthy
with an Ear Candling session? Use your own
judgment as to how often you need or want to have
an Ear Candling session.

This is an old home remedy and no claim is made
for any cure of any disease or ailment.

2) What is ear candling and why do people benefit
from it?
It is a safe, gentle method of cleansing the ear canal
by means of inserting a hollow “candle”. It removes
excessive ear wax (which can impair hearing), yeast,
fungus and bacteria build-up due to ear infections. It
has been known to reduce noise from Tinitus
(ringing in the ears). Earaches are often caused by
mucous blown into the ear from the Eustachian tube.
Ear candling may often release this fluid pressure
and thus relieve the pain. Candida can cause a
yeast allergy, which causes itching in the ear.
Parasites may also cause problems if allowed to
grow in the ear. The warm, moist environment of the
ear canal is an ideal breeding place for the rapid
growth of many organisms. Ear Candling may help
reduce or eliminate many of these symptoms.

3) How does it work?
Candles are made of strips of fabric that are shaped
into a cone. They are then dipped in paraffin or
beeswax, which allows them to hold the candle
shape. The tapered end is inserted into a face guard
and the wide end is ignited. When the tapered end
starts to smoke, the practitioner gently inserts the
candle into the ear until it is properly seated. This
“seating” of the candle occurs when the smoke is no
longer visible around the ear canal. The warmth of
the candle creates a gentle vacuum, which in turn
softens the wax and begins pulling wax and other
toxic material out of the ear and into the candle. The
practitioner will cut open the candles to examine the
contents and determine the number of candles to be
used.

4) Does it hurt?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! There is virtually no discomfort
associated with Ear Candling. Most clients say that it
is as relaxing as a massage. Some become so
relaxed that they fall asleep.

5) How long does it take?
Each candle takes approximately 15 minutes to
burn. Usually 2 candles are used in each ear. So the
average session lasts about 1 ½ hour.

6) Who can benefit from Ear Candling?
Ear Candling may benefit all ages, from children to
the elderly.

7) Who should not be candled?
Anyone who has had recent surgery on the ears,
nose, throat or sinuses, including the insertion of
tubes in the ears that could be dislodged. Also,
anyone who seems to be apprehensive after hearing
the process should not be candled.

8) How many candles are used in a session?
Young children generally do well with ½ to 1 candle
per ear. Adults generally take no more then 2
candles per ear, unless there is excessive debris.
The practitioner may elect to use a 3rd candle,
providing the client isn’t feeling any irritation or if the
ear canal appears unduly red. If this occurs the
process can be repeated within two weeks.

9) How often can a person be candled?
In cases of chronic ear discomfort, I recommend that
a client be candled in about two weeks. Generally, I
suggest an individual have their ears cleaned with
the change of seasons or as needed due to
allergies, swimmer’s ear, etc. Most clients will
intuitively know when they feel “clogged” or
experience sinus pressure. Also, clients with
hearing devises seem to need candling more
frequently, perhaps due to the fact that the ear canal
is blocked, therefore creating a moist environment
that may promote more debris.

10) How do we know what it is that comes out of a
candle?
You will be able to see the wax, which is yellow to
yellow brown in color. There will also be a powdery
residue from the candle. Approximately 10% is
candle residue. Laboratory analysis has shown that
residue removed from the ear consisted of earwax,
residuals from past infections, fungus, bacteria,
yeast/candida, ear mites, worms, parasites and/or
hair.

11) Why isn’t there more written information about
Ear Candling?
The process has been lost to common knowledge
for many years and only a small but growing number
of people know about it. Because it is considered an
Old Home Remedy, those people who do know
about it probably gained the knowledge as it was
passed on from generation to generation. Some
doctors do not endorse ear candling because they
do not believe in it. Instead, they will wash the ears
with syringe-like instrument: which may be very
uncomfortable and sometimes painful according to
some client’s previous experiences. If they took the
residue from an Ear Candling and viewed the
material under a microscope, they would see that it
is living and active and the same substances that
they are attempting to remove. Laboratory analysis
has shown that the residue removed by Ear
Candling consisted of ear wax, residuals from past
infections, fungus, bacteria, yeast/candida, ear
mites, worms, parasites and hair etc. Ear Candling
is not purported to be a cure-all, but in many cases, it
has proven to be a successful and economic
alternative.

Candling Success Stories

No claims are made but these are reports given to us

An ear, nose and throat Doctor has been doing Ear
Candling for 20 years and when he had some of the
debris analyzed, he found that 5 different types of
infections were collected in the candle.

One gentleman went to a therapist after having been
told he had a 70% hearing loss. After being candled,
1 week apart, he went back for a hearing test and
was told he now had only a 2% hearing loss.

After several sessions of Ear Candling, many people
have reported not needing their hearing aids, others
were helped with sinus and allergy symptoms or the
ticking, bussing, ringing, and/or itching of their ears
stopped.

After 2 Ear Candling sessions, a lady with limited
night vision did not need her glasses to drive at night.

People diagnosed with “Migraine” headaches have
reported the pain stopped during the Ear Candling
sessions and with continued use in 3 months, the
headaches never returned.

A 3 year old had infections from the time she was 6
weeks of age. Because the child was irritable and
undisciplined, she could not be placed in a day-care
of any kind. After several sessions, the child was
taken back to the audiologist; her hearing had
improved by 80%. Now instead of being a rebellious
child, she was a very compliant child.

A 3-month-old baby was running a fever and was
diagnosed as having an ear infection. The mother
brought the baby to a therapist who applied a candle
in each ear. The remains of each candle revealed 1
inch of debris. Since the infection was gone, so was
the baby’s fever.

A man running a high fever was diagnosed with
bronchial pneumonia. After 4 candles in each ear, he
stopped coughing, his fever went down, and he went
back to work the next day. He had been off work for
several weeks.

A lady had terrible headaches with tension in her
neck and shoulders. After several Ear Candling
sessions, she stopped taking all her pain
medications.
Again, we make no claims or guarantees to the
results anyone will receive but we continue to be
amazed at the results we are getting.
